“All I know is that it is a very frustrating occupation being a painter. It certainly is for me because you have this white canvas or piece of paper up there in front of you and you think: ‘Oh boy! This is going to be a wonderful picture, this is going to be a masterpiece.’ Then you work on it and work on it until finally you don’t know what to do with it anymore and then it lets you down. It always seems to let you down. There are very few pictures that I have done that I think are just great, that I don’t have to do any more with. It’s really a fascinating occupation.
