Albert Moulton Foweraker
Another interesting name to add to our compilation of artists fascinated by nighttime painting, is that of Albert Moulton Foweraker (1873-1942).
British artist Foweraker (whose name is erroneously listed as Doweraker in some auction records), left his work as a milling engineer to become a full time artist at the age of 25, after losing three fingers in an accident. His landscapes often depict the Cornish coast, Devon and Dorset (his home turf), but also include work done on frequent trips to Spain, North Africa and France. Foweraker taught watercolor painting at the Algernon Talmadge’s Cornish School of Landscape and Sea Painting and later in southern Spain, where he took his winters. He was made a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1902.
His interest was in representing the landscape under the moon or in dusky light. Enjoy comparing his day…
