Perspectives from The Artist's Road
When we think about it, painting is in itself a curious business. Our eyes and brain are trying to evoke an image or picture which only exists either partially or primarily in our “mind’s eye”. It may only be an idea, a concept, memory or a fleeting image impression that wants to be born. The birthing process must be thought of as an experiment in manifesting something solid from almost nothing — mere electric pulses in our heads. No machine or AI agent can do this. It can be very challenging, and hard work, but this is exactly what humans are good at. If you think about it, everything human-made on this planet went through that process. Imagine something. Try to make it real. Fail at first. Try again, and so on. That is how culture, powered by art, moves forward. That is the art-making process. The trick is to believe wholeheartedly in that process. Don’t get discouraged, whether you are supported in this effort or not. Never stop working to give birth to your vision and your ideas. Humanity depends upon it.
