As summer temperatures begin to rise into the uncomfortable range, we look for cooler climes to explore and paint. We had been hearing about the charms of Northern Michigan in general, and the little town of Petoskey in particular, for a few years. In 2013, the Oil Painters of America held their Salon show at the Petoskey Art Center, but we had other commitments and could not make the trip. The reports which came back from friends who had participated were glowing with compliments about the Art Center, the town and the surrounding landscape. In July of 2014 we decided to make a painting trip up there to see for ourselves. The opportunity to visit came in the form of an invitation by local friends who had bought a second home in Petoskey, and so we went. What we found there exceeded our expectations.
