Paintings and Their Places
Vincent van Gogh
We have become armchair travelers of late, looking forward to a future that allows the real thing once again. One of the most exciting moments in a real-life travel excursion is finding a location that inspired a familiar painting by a favorite artist and standing in the same spot where that artist stood translating his or her inspiration. We’ve had the opportunity to stand in the footsteps of a few favorites: Monet, Cezanne, Van Gogh and more, whilst teaching workshops in Tuscany and Provence. Here are a just a few of the places that Van Gogh painted—as he painted them, and, as they exist today—some we’ve visited in person, some we look forward to seeing one day. All provide a glimpse into his inspiration and the paintings that came from it.
