Plein Air Pastel Painting in Tuscany Part III
Painting Demonstration at the Biondi Santi Vineyard
Cedar Allee, Biondi Santi Vineyard
While driving along the road to Sant’Antimo the previous day, I had noticed a wonderful old wine estate, Il Greppo, which I felt would be a good place to paint. As it turned out, the winery was open for public tours, but not the grounds. Through the persistent and gracious efforts of a friend, I was granted special permission to paint there for the afternoon. This winery is the home of the world-famous Super Tuscan wines of Biondi-Santi, and the grounds have been carefully planted and manicured for over 100 years to present the picture of perfection that they are today. I wandered around and finally had to choose a painting site from the many stunning views around me. I set up behind the main house, where a road lined with vines framed a perfect old palazzo that sat on the crest of a hill. Watch this video demonstration of the plein air pastel painting I created there.
