Rose Delight
A Step-by-Step Watercolor Slide Show
In this brief slide show, you will be introduced to John’s watercolor style and techniques for painting a representational subject. John prefers to work in a wet-into-wet manner which is the most risky technique for any watercolor painter. Watch as he shares his approach to pre-painting areas with clear water and then “pumping” rich, concentrated color into them. By always keeping an eye on the evaporation rate of these wet areas, and knowing just when to put color into them, he is able to get beautiful soft blends without the usual muddiness that often comes with this challenging technique. For the sharp-eyed, you may also see how he uses the contrasting handling characteristics between staining colors and sedimentary colors to get remarkable effects. Enjoy!
