Learning to see as an artist is no doubt a lifelong task, requiring countless hours of observation, comparison and reproduction of our real-life subjects. Recent research into how our brains learn to perceive our world have revealed that the repeated, prolonged practice of studying a subject intently actually rewires our brains. Apparently, training ourselves to observe more accurately causes new connections to be formed in the visual cortex, leading to ever better observations over time.
