The Art of Weather
Perspectives from The Artist's Road
We have just returned from attending the gala opening festivities at the first National Weather Biennale Exhibition of Art in Norman, Oklahoma (2013). The theme of the exhibition is “art’s window on the impact of weather on the human experience.” It was organized and curated by Alan Atkinson, Ph.D.,who is an artist, curator, Asian art and culture scholar and instructor at the University of Oklahoma.
The exhibition is a partnership between The National Weather Center, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma and the Norman Arts Council. The National Weather Center is not only a research and teaching facility, but also leads the world in designing and building new technologies, especially advanced mobile radar. This type of radar enables the scientists at the Center to image and study the world’s weather in ever finer detail and understanding.
