The Plein Air Study.
It is always a good idea to make a small study for any oil painting. This 5”x7” pastel enabled me to work from life in the extreme cold and figure out my palette and my color harmonies. Working small is also an efficient way to tinker a bit with the composition and lighting. I don’t worry about likenesses at this point at all. Another Lesson of the Masters used here is, Make a Value Study and Stick To It!
