Our gratitude goes to Mort Solberg—for his big spirit and many kindnesses. Thank you, Mort, for sharing your elegant work with the world and for taking the time to share with students all that you learned in a long life of creating beauty.

We were deeply saddened to learn of Mort's passing this week, but are grateful to have had the opportunity to know him. His work will continue to inspire us always. A few years ago, we had the good fortune to interview him for The Artist's Road. Click here to read that interview and to see more of his paintings - Voices of Experience - Mort Solberg.

   From his website:

“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious.

It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science.”

― Albert Einstein, The World As I See It

We show you how it's done with a step-by-step-oil demo and a tale of night painting in the wilds of Rocky Mountain National Park. The Primer on Night Painting - Nocturnes is a 7 x 7" PDF download with 40 pages of text and images. It includes a gallery of paintings by masters of the nocturne, information to inspire and encourage you in your plein air nocturne painting, an illustrated step-by-step demo and tips for working in pastel and oil.
